The way of Tme

How time is such a painful part of our lives.
It still seems like yesterday, oh how you were ready to make your own way.
Then on that day, you sat there with a loss of your drive.
You’re nothing like you were back when we used to spend time at the bay.

We we’re much younger then, I mind.
You more ignorant, yet you were more brass at that.
We ran across the beach to sailors who were so very kind.
Then ran back to the dock where we sat, away from that one rat.

He was always there, just watching the world with little care.
Never needing a plan, never having an agenda, he was just there.
Some looked at it with disgust, while others gave him food they could spare.
It would stay for a few minutes before returning to its lair.

Afterwards if I recall correct, we ran across the pier to the near field.
You told me that it was here, where you felt most at peace.
There we remained for a while, letting the day be revealed.
It was in that particular moment where all speech seemed to cease.

Like a piece of art within a museum that moment of silence will forever be.
Untouched, unchanged, indifferent than the moment of its creation.
It’s moment that had meaning to us, to others a simple tree.
It was something sacred that day, it need not change a nation.

It’s the fondest moment I have of you my old friend.
Something that, unlike us, shall never end.

I wish, we could see each other now.
I wish, we could return to the bay.
I wish, we could see that old rat take a bow.
I wish, we could have, once more that day.

But I know now, that we cannot have the past again.

I know now, how the world works in devilish ways.
I know now, how life see’s us as little grains.
I know now, how at the end, all those moments can pay.
I know now, yet it still doesn’t free me from my misery.

We were the closest of friends, and I wish time didn’t cause such pain.
Yet, we’re human and nothing between us is the same.
Sometimes, these poor differences become our very bane.
Like the difference of mere days, can help push a reaper’s claim.

I sit now upon that very field, and once more take a moment to hear.
No voices buzzing in my ears, no wind to press against my skin.
No bugs crawling beneath me, my mind frozen here with no thoughts to seer.
I count three more beats, get to my feet, and take off with a spin.

With no plan to return, I march away, taken only the memories from this frame.
know now, that there’s no reason now for me ache.
Because simply put there is no one left to blame, nor be blamed.
It was simply the work of time, shaking those from the tree of life, then clearing them away
with a rake.

It all so clear now.
That there is nothing here for me to hate.
Nor anything left for me to blame.

The Lovers Memento

I met you here and I must decree, ever since that dull day, an excitement has over taken me for these past years.
Your eyes how they mesmerize, it’s highly likely that it was them which held my attention so long, knowing I had little to fear.
Despite the vipers hissing at our devotion for one and other, I always knew it could be you, my dear friend.
With you I feel better, feel stronger, feel grand, when together there is no need for spite or hate for we easily blend.
I need you in my life, and I fancy that you’ll be in need of me.
We keep the peace with each other, finding no pain, no hate, we need not have to be perfect, for love holds us tight and full of glee.
So let me be yours and you to be mine, together painting a path in which we can follow the rest of our life.
Let us be bound for life, I’m in need of relief and with you I find such great might.
Let us be wed, our matrimony to sound off across this town and the next, let it be near this tree in which we first sat to rest.
For this beauty of nature is the spot in which love first kindled and this is the spot in which it burns the best.
It will stand here for a thousand years more.
Carrying our love within its core.
I’ve said before and I’ll say it now.
I’ve found a romance in our beginnings and I wish to let it last until our final bow.
Now if you see as I do, then let our marriage commence and this tree, a reminder of what we have found.
Are you willing, to take this opportunity my love, and accept the beauty that this idea sounds?

For I yearn for no sweeter ecstasy than the one you divulge my dear!

A Person of The Past

It was a cold day, the ground still soaked from the rain that had occurred the day prior. The streets seemed empty with only a few pedestrians walking along the sidewalk. One of these few was Brian, he continued along his route as any other person would yet with a nagging sensation in the back of his head telling him just to turn around and go back home to his warm apartment where he could curl up in front of the television. Despite this urge he continued walking, after all he had promised to come, promised to talk, promised to meet.

He walked down a steep hill, then at the center, cut across to a garden off to side. The bright flowers waved to him as the wind whistled in his ear. It had been long since he had walked along the gravel of this place, the stones crunch under his feet as he moved around, taking in the beauty of his surroundings. He couldn’t help but smile, it hadn’t been long, it had been too long since he had entered these grounds. He then turned his head and stop dead in his tracks. His smiled faded quickly as he then remembered why he had stopped himself from returning, why he never wanted to come back. There in front of him were two white chairs, to anyone they were simple chairs, to him they were something else, something he didn’t like.
“I can’t stay, if I do, it’s another missed chance.”
“It’s not a missed chance, it’s just another path for you to take.”
“It’s more than just a path, it’s a future and if I don’t take it then I might as well shoot myself.”
Brian pulled himself out from his head. He pondered why he had decided to come back for a few moments, then he realized that he was the only one in this garden. He could leave and it would be like he had never shown up in the first place. He turned to execute this plan and in an instant it was shattered.
“Been awhile, eh Brian?”
Brian looked towards her, she was exactly as he remembered her, bright blond hair cut just above the shoulders, blue eyes comparable to sapphires, there wasn’t a doubt, it was her.
“Yeah, it has?” He responded looking at her.
She nodded then looked to the clouds, “What now, seven years since we last saw one another?”
“Sounds about right.”
She looked back at him, “Still, it looks like time hasn’t shaped you in anyway.”
“Only paid me in knowledge… and wealth. You look nice.”
“Oh shut up, you really think I can take a compliment from you.”
He turned his gaze towards the rocks he was planted on, “No… I don’t think so, I was just trying to be nice and-“
“Nice, you were trying to be nice, what would have been nice, is if you stayed.”
“Oh come on, you can’t hold that against me.” He stated looking at her.
She shook her head, “Did you even give us a thought… No, you only saw dollar signs and you choose that over us. God, why did I even want to meet with you, what did I expect?”
“An answer perhaps?” Brian stated turning to the chairs, he walked towards the farthest one and sat in it. The woman looked at him confused.
“Come on, let’s talk.”
She sighed, shaking her head. She then walked towards the empty chair and took a seat.
“Where should we begin?” Brian asked.
“Why you left, there were plenty of opportunities for you here, but you left and took that other offer. Why?”
“I was young, I was ambitious, I wanted the world. There were opportunities here yet, I felt that I could rule if I took the path I choose. Turns out, I was almost right. I was a part of so many projects, most of my ambitions were fulfilled and I got rich.”
“You choose all of that over us?”
“I was almost right. Yet all those years ago you never let me finish my pitch, you cut me off short.”
“What do you mean?”
“You saw two paths for me to take. One with you, here, and another one without you, out there. I saw a third.” Brian reached into his pocket and pulled out a crumpled piece of paper and handed it to her.
She looked at him then turned her attention to the crumpled paper, she unfolded it and read it to herself. “It’s just a plane ticket from seven years ago, so what.”
“That you’re wrong, it was supposed to be your plane ticket.”
“What?” She stated, shocked.
“It’s rather simple actually, I had already made my choice on my path. The company then provided me housing and a plane ticket. I then exchanged the first class ticket for two business class tickets.”
“Why didn’t you-“
“I fondly remember you saying, never call, never come near, I never ever want to see you again, not even at my funeral.”
The women looked at the ticket, and then handed it back to him shaking her head. “Well… damn.”
He nodded, looking at her. She looked to the ground and then up at the flowers.
“Now, what?” She simply asked.
“I don’t know.” He responded.
The two remained sitting in silence, watching the flowers dance to the music of the wind. Brian then sighed knowing what he should do, he then looked once more at her as she looked to him.
“You want to get a coffee or something?” He asked.
She looked back at him, “Are you asking me out?”
Brian looked at her and slowly nodded, “Sometimes we make mistakes and sometimes we have the chance to undo them. So what do you say?”
She looked at him for a moment, staring silently, until finally she nodded standing up. “Fine, come along Bry, we have some history to fix.”
He smiled and stood up, letting her lead them out of the garden and back to the path where they continued their walk. Brian finally relieved of the nagging thoughts which once danced in his head.

My Guiding Light

So it's come to this, a moment in which the darkness overtakes and you find yourself full of pain.

Yet even as this weight takes it place you hold out strong and pretend you're fine even though you're soon to break.

Yet as I'm here to help, you deny yourself this simple out, figuring you'll last along the lane you take, not realizing it's true strain.

More fatigued, more fractured you soon become, little sleep, more anxieties to deal with, leaving you wishing for a chance to escape this hate and to hopefully awake.

Come the sun, then moon, then another two, it comes too soon, your castle of glass falls shattered and smashed with pieces scatter too far to catch.

Distance is what's needed you think, so away from us all is where you choose to go.

Far away you dash, you speak not a word nor make yourself apparent, after all this time you elude us all and make yourself completely detached.

You think us full of spite, you think us cold hearted, and you think we don't care but it is here where I simply declare... no.

I have cared, I offered you my assistants and you threw it away treating it as trash.

This time I don't say ok, this time I am not afraid, for you are my friend and I hate to see you is such pain and torment.

Heed my words and listen well, this is nothing that will hurt nor anything simple to thrash.

I've known you since we were kids, I've seen you grow, I've seen you love and I've seen you cry and I know you so well that here is what I present.

I will not force you or drag you along, but I know you wish to restart and this is something I can provide.

No need to feel your pain, no need to go insane, just simply take eye upon this light I bring.

Take it with you as you journey back to times where we can smile and that where we can laugh, it shall be your guide as you take your ride.

Let it show you the way through the dark, let it take you home to where you belong, back to the place where you have zing.

This is my guiding light, my beacon of hope and my lantern to shine.

I beg you now, use it now, and let you come back to the place where our world was properly aligned.

For I miss my old friend and wish for him to take this trip back into the warming light which shall forever shine through our lives.

An Ode to Love

If you know who I am, then you know who I was.
If you know who I was, then you know what I’ve done.
If you know what I’ve done, then you shouldn’t be standing here.

If you shouldn’t be standing here, then you should be standing somewhere else.
If you should be standing somewhere else, then you should be far from me.
If you should be far from me, then you’ve reached safety.

If you’ve reached safety, then you’ve never met me.
If you’ve never met me, then the path you’ve taken is the correct one.
If you’ve taken the correct path, then you’re on the road to a brighter future.

If you’re on the road to a brighter future, then you’re on the path of progression.
If you’re on the path of progression, then you’re going to be alright.
If you’re going to be alright, then we never have been.

If we’ve never have been, then we didn’t take fate into our own hands
If we’ve never took fate into our own hands, then we aren’t human.
If we’ve never been human, then we’re machines.

If we’re machines, then we’re programmed to follow procedures.
If we’re programmed to follow procedures, then we’re not questioning.
If we’re not questioning, then there is no point.

If there is no point, then there is no existence.
If there is no existence, then there is no chance for things like love or reality.
If there is no chance for things like love or reality, than it’s impossible for life.

If it’s impossible for life, then it’s impossible for a future.
If it’s impossible for a future, then in it’s impossible for you and me.
If it’s impossible for you and me, then I do not want to be.

If I do not want to be, it’s because you are not with me.
If you are not with me, then there is no point to me.
If there is no point to me, then I shall never be.

Yet, it is here that I decree, that this is not what should be.

For truth be that when I see you.
For truth be that when I am near you.
For truth be that when I am with you.

I no longer need questions.
I no longer need order.
I no longer need structure.

Because, despite what I am.
Because, despite what I was.
Because, despite what I’ve done.

When we’re together, there is nothing that matters.
When we’re together, we will not be torn apart.
When we’re together, heart and heart.
There is nothing stopping me from saying how much I need you.

Because simply put.

I loved you then.
and I love you now.
and without you, there is no point to who I am.
