The Wild's Domain (Part 6)

The Commander joined his men outside the vessel, all was quiet. Tyson shook his head, sitting against the ships metal frame. “This doesn’t make sense Commander, we’re in the middle of a death zone. I’m sure, we can hold them off, but why haven’t any other creatures come to let us prove that?”
The Commander looked around, then back to Tyson, “Perhaps they’re confused, we react in a similar manner to odd things. It’s just there fear holding them back.
“Stalkers, definitely but Ravengers don’t have that feeling. Somethings up, and we’re in the center of the mess.”
“We aren’t in any messes yet, thinking that way is only going to influence your panic sensors.”
“This isn’t thought, this is knowing, I may be new at this but I know enough that those monsters don’t have any moral compass, only a stomach. They will come at you without hesitation, even if they’re outnumbered and the enemy out fortifies them. We’re both, where are they?” Tyson asked standing up.
Colton considered it, realizing his mistake. He then walked out into the center of the group. “Listen up, we need everyone on high alert we might have ourselves some real trouble in a bit so get ready!”
He then ran back into the ship and up into the bridge where Ashley and Wes were watching the men do their work. “Stop the look around, get your men as well as any other groups and get out to the battlefield. We think we have a real problem in coming.”
“Yes sir.” One said before the group exited the area.
“You two, what does this ship have for weaponry?”
“The ship itself has no proper weapons, we have a shield which we’re unsure about but other than that, no guns mounted.” Ashley replied.
“What about hand weapons?”
Wes smiled, “We have a few, why?”
“It’s a feeling I’m getting, can I borrow one?”
Wes looked to his partner, and then led him to a wall in the bridge. He tapped it several times, each on a different position on the wall, it then split open revealing several handguns and a few rifles.
“They can blast through frail matter and make their way through the toughest of things eventually. If you’re asking for guns then it must be bad, so take what you need. I trust you Commander.”
Colton walked into the room, he took four handguns and a rifle, then he holstered the pistols on his sides and threw the rifle over his shoulder. “Thank you.”
“The guns are on a battery it will display on the back of the weapon. Don’t waste your shots, the rifle is stronger than the hand guns. Be careful Colton.”
“The Commander nodded and began to leave, “Once we’re all out, activate the shields. Even if we don’t last the night another party should make their way in the morning, do you understand?”
The security officer nodded, “Good luck Commander.”
Colton walked through the wired hallway of the damaged structure, then out through the hole in its hull out into the moonlight. Another minute passed until the blue tint came around the hull of the ship, accompanied by a low hum.
Tyson ran over, “Colt, what’s-“
“I told them to, the colony needs the ship intact as well as its crew.” He stated handing Tyson one of the pistols.
“You really don’t think that we-“
“I know, you were wrong though. They aren’t afraid of us though.”

“Then what are they afraid of?”
As he spoke, a loud roar erupted from the forest, Colton readied his rifle as Tyson did with his pistol, they then climbed up the hillside positioning themselves, awaiting the beast about to attack.
A tense filed moment past, all soldiers standing in wait with a mixture of excitement and fear rushing over them. They had all heard the stories of the Reptilian monster and the destroyed cities left in his wake, they could not allow this to destroy the ship, no matter the cost.
Soon its figure pushed into the pit, it’s white scales radiating heat from inside, it’s blue eyes taking in the militia, it’s horns and teeth sharp enough to tear through stone with one simple swing. The white beast roared loudly blasting a blue flaming orb into the sky trying to threaten the men, its attempt unmoving them, only causing mild whispers of a confirmed rumor.
“Sir, what do we do?” Shouted one of the guards.
“Wait for its charge, aim for the eyes, it’s the only part unprotected.” Colton shouted.
The white dragon like creature looked at the men, almost like it was trying to see through them. It then turned and engulfed a Stalker, attempting to sneak by it.
“Well that’s not good,” Tyson whispered.
“I can kill them without any thermal vision too, don’t worry just yet Tyson.”
The lizard finally made its move, but rather than charging it launched an orb towards the two men on the hillside. Colton quickly leaping out of the way grabbing Tyson pull him out of harms way. The orb exploded on impact putting a massive dent in the hill, just barely missing the men.
“Charge!” Shouted a warrior waiting, the beast had tried to kill their leader. That was grounds enough for an attack.
Colton looked back at the scene, warriors charged the monstrous creature, slashing at its skin while archers waited for them to be knocked away, taking shots and the creature which remain unaffected by these maneuvers.
“What is this thing made of? Steel, we’re attacking like no tomorrow and they’re doing nothing!” Tyson announced.
Colton wasn’t paying attention, he called for his horse with a new plan in action. The black steed rushed to his side and he mounted it, taking the reins with one hand and holding his rifle with the other.
“You’re not seriously going to Wild West this, are you?”
Colton nodded, “desperate times call for desperate measures.” He then rode towards the beast, firing his rifle at it. The beams of energy flew through the air, connecting with the beast’s scales causing it to flinch a bit. It roared in anger and turned towards the Commander who continued shooting it, “Come on you ugly thing, show me what you’re made of!”
The creatures whipped around and began chasing after him, he had it’s attention and now the ship was no long in harm’s way, could be better if he was too, but still a problem was solved. The horse galloping away from the monster keeping a fixed distance between it and it’s pray.
Colton continued harassing it with laser fire which obviously did something, whether hurting it or simply keeping it at bay was in question, but something was done regardless. The Drakin then attempted to blast Colton away with its orb of flame, Colton jerked his horse out of the way and retaliated with a beam of laser in its mouth. It roared in pain as a blue substance began slowly oozing from its mouth that had done something.
Colton and the monster travelled further and further from the ship, they were out in a field by now, nowhere to hide but plenty to run. The rider fired off a few more laser rounds before the gun’s battery fell empty, he hitched the weapon to the horse, then drew two of his hand guns and turned his horse towards the beast.
Both stood completely still staring at one another. The Drakin still leaking blue from its covered lips while Colton no longer wishing to run from this beast, this was to end, here and now!
His horse galloped towards the monster, it charging towards him. He took position standing up on the saddle and held both guns at the ready, with the gap closing between them rapidly he leaped high into the air allowing his horse to run for its life and began firing on top of the reptile, green orbs flew from the pistol penetrating its skin, with the repetition leaving some visible damage. He landed behind the beast and continued his assault, this beast was dying and by the hands of one, not many. It countered quickly though, sweeping Colton off his feet with his tail, him losing grip on his other weapons having them sail through the sky and landing far off. He landed hard on his back, finding the ground beneath him hard to get up from, but he wouldn’t have to.
The creature stood on its hind legs and looked down at him, Colton reached at his waist slowly wrapping his hands around his last pistol. Everything slowed down then, the beast roared loudly lunging at him, while he drew the weapon and fired repeatedly into its mouth not daring to stop. He didn’t stop shooting until it was dead and had fallen beside him. Then he didn’t stop firing at the corpse until he was sure.
Finally, it was dead and he need not worry about it, yet the rush of victory was no match for the heat of his exhaustion as he laid next to the corpse and slowly passed out, the stars to be his last memory of the night.
